Low-cost doesn’t
always mean inferior quality as much as pricey doesn’t mean being
ripped off. Mini dental implants are a testament to this.
At a third of the cost
of normal implants (which may vary), mini dental implants are a more
affordable alternative to regular implants and have lighter
requirements in terms of jaw bone integrity. Due to the size of mini
implants, they need less bone for proper installation than normal
implants. This works well with patients whose gums have receded over
the years.
The implants are also
made from the same bio-integrative titanium alloy used in normal
dental implants. Osseointegration, the fusion of natural jaw bone to
the proper kind of bio-integrative metal, is essential for implants
to stay in place for good. As the mini implants need a smaller hole
for installation, osseointegration can be hastened.
A smaller implant means
less alloy needed to make one, significantly cutting the cost. A
typical dental implant, inclusive of the implants and procedure, may
cost around $3,500 (again, prices may vary). However, mini implants
can save you as much as $2,000 while achieving the same effect as
typical implants.
For the price of around
two to three regular implants, patients can also get full dentures
installed for their teeth. Full dentures require at least four to six
mini implants, depending on the extent of the jaw bone that needs to
be covered.
Full dentures sound awesome! Can you chew on them better than on regular dentures? Basically, I have to take mine out if I want to chew up anything more solid than yogurt. It's really annoying, not to mention embarrassing.
